Job Title: Food Scientist
Job Location: South St. Paul, MN
Job Duties: Responsible for conducting testing, analysis, and reporting on raw materials and finished products for global supplier of pet products. Specific duties include: (1) making formulations for extruded and injection molded dog treats; (2) cooperating with machine engineers to find correct processing formulas and making adjustments to improve processing according the specific customer’s requirements; (3) trouble shooting production problems to identify and address color variation, texture changes and temperature fluctuation of extruders; (4) working with quality control coordinator to develop Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Plan; (5) building an effective sanitation and environmental pathogen monitoring system; (6) conducting in-house testing for moisture, water activity and pH, and coordinating without outside laboratory resources for salmonella testing; (7) monitoring quality control of imported ingredients by verifying certificate of analysis with suppliers and sending samples for testing; and (8) expanding ingredient supply chain by negotiating and communicating with diverse ingredient suppliers.
Requirements: B.S. in Food Science or related; one year of food science-related research experience, including product development and testing; and HACCP Certification.
